After Emerald Princess cruised through Tracy Arm fjord, it headed towards Juneau. In the meantime, we had lunch in the main dining room.

Shortly after the ship docked in Juneau, we disembarked and had second lunch at Tracy's King Crab Shack. Their new location is much larger than the last time we visited in 2016 and 2015, but the place was still packed with hungry patrons and we could not find seats together. King crab, crab bisque and crab cakes were yummy as usual!

Afterwards, the family split up for different activities. Allen, Lisa, Alison and Brandon rode the Mt. Roberts Tramway to enjoy the beautiful views from atop, while Kaleb and I joined Edmund, Angela, and Abby on a whale watching excursion that we purchased through Princess.

We were fortunate enough to catch the whales feeding "bubble net" style!

As the boat headed back to the harbor, we sampled some Alaskan local treats, which could be purchased on board.

Alaskan smoked salmon
local marmalade and handcrafted chocolate

It was the first time I had gone whale watching and it was pretty neat, especially seeing the bubble net feeding.

We returned to Emerald Princess past our normal dinner time, so the five of us ate in the "Any Time" dining room. Tonight was Alaska-themed dishes. King crab legs were served - not as meaty as the ones at Tracy's, but you could eat as many as you wish.

We had booked the Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp and Salmon Bake tour through Shore Excursions Group. It cost less than Princess' offering, plus the tour started at lunch time, versus in the afternoon. The meeting place was the Small Boat Harbor, about a 10 minute walk from where our ship was docked. A representative met us, then led our group to where a bus was waiting to take guests to the camp.

The salmon bake came first, followed by a show at the camp, then gold panning. The food was really good. The salmon glaze was a bit sweet for my taste, but the fish was certainly fresh. The show was entertaining and everyone was able to find a few flecks of gold in their pan.

It was a fun excursion and I would recommend it, especially if you have kids. After the tour was over, the bus dropped us off in town so we could stroll the streets before heading back to the ship. (you could also return to the original boarding location) We were able to find huckleberry ice cream at the Popcorn Emporium.

Tonight was the Chef's Dinner. The food was pretty good. I usually go with the waiter's recommendations.

Kaleb and I attended a couple of shows that night, a humorous "Can You Hack It" where guests competed with each other on stage and the "Voice of the Ocean", similar to "The Voice" on TV. I considered participating, but the line was very long.

It was still pretty bright outside at 10pm.

Tomorrow will be a sea day, followed by a short stop in Victoria before the fun is over...stay tuned!
