Dune had recently come out and since the movie had been filmed using IMAX-certified cameras, it would be best seen in IMAX theaters with 1.43 aspect ratio screens. Fortunately, the Metreon in San Francisco was on the list (at the time, home to the second-largest IMAX screen in the United States), so Kaleb and I went on a little staycation.
We also scheduled a sailboat outing the next day with one of my best friends Tiffany and her husband David. They recently purchased Eagle, a 36-foot Beneteau 361, and were welcoming friends to go sailing on the San Francisco Bay.
Our home for the night was at the Marriott Marquis hotel, booked under a discount rate, located adjacent to the Metreon. It would cost over $80 to valet the car there, so I used SpotHero to book a parking space for $16 a couple of blocks away at the Hearst garage on Stevenson Street. Our comfortable room overlooked the hotel atrium and next to a walkway, so the curtains would be closed 24-7.
We walked across the street to the Metreon to grab a bite to eat before the 3:15pm showtime. There wasn't much to choose from, so we had some mediocre fast food Thai that didn't warrant a photo. No one bothered to check vaccine cards, even though there was signage in the food court. We headed upstairs to the movie theater and our cards weren't checked there either. The movie was well-done - I enjoyed watching it on the large screen.
Dinner tonight was at Izakaya Hon, reservations made on OpenTable. The hostess requested to see our vaccination cards before being seated. It wasn't very crowded inside. The food was delish!

The next morning, we checked out of the hotel and drove to the marina to meet up with Tiffany and David. They gave us a tour of Eagle. I forgot to take pictures, but you can visit Tiffany and David's YouTube channel "Sailing Two Worlds" for videos of Eagle and their sailboat shopping experience.
Then we were off to the bay! Too bad the wind almost non-existent, but we had a wonderful time catching up and enjoying Paris Baguette sandwiches and snacks on board.
After returning Eagle back to the slip, Tiffany and David treated us to snacks and drinks at a nearby food stand before our drive back home. Thanks so much for everything and looking forward to our next sail!
Where to next? One week later, we hop on a plane to Hawaii...stay tuned...
